The cancer care building we designed in Santa Fe New Mexico for @christusstvincent is nearing completion! Early in design we worked with @shildan_tc to craft exterior terracotta panels that responded to the unique landscape of Santa Fe’s high desert climate and days of sunshine. Using just two panel profiles, flat and L-shaped, one color, and a single pattern, gave us enough flexibility to change...

Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate the Santa Fe Building's distinctive architecture, noting its significant contribution to the city's unique aesthetic. However, some reviews point to operational inefficiencies, such as delayed service openings and potential communication challenges, which can impact the visitor experience.

"Well this was an experience. It use to be you could show up at 8 am in the morning. Get in get out. Now the employees don't show up till 8:20, 8:30.By the time they do show up you are like "oh great now the line will start moving. Nope! It takes about 16 minutes to count their change and get ready. So when I finally get to talk to and employee, clearly after 8:30 they start getting frustrated with me because I can't understand their broken English."

"Cool building and one of my favorites in Amarillo but until they unlock the revolving door I'm sadly leaving a negative review. Without the revolving door in service people are practically trampling each other trying to get in and out of the building"

someone

"The Amarillo Police Department holds a
Tree of Angels Remembrance; each year, inviting family and friends to Honor their loved ones, who were crime victims, as they lost their lives, thru homicide. Definitely, heart touching, as you meet; so many loved ones, who's lives have changed, thru the sharp- jaggery pain that slices; each given vain, that only they feel, of a Beautiful Soul who was ripped; from them."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Architecture of Santa Fe

The Santa Fe Building is a prime example of the distinctive architectural styles that define the city. You'll notice elements of Pueblo Revival, characterized by its adobe-like massing, rounded corners, and earthy color palettes. This style draws inspiration from the traditional dwellings of indigenous peoples of the region. Complementing this is the Territorial style, which often incorporates more rectilinear forms, flat roofs, and decorative elements like vigas (exposed wooden ceiling beams) and corbels.

These architectural choices are not merely aesthetic; they are deeply rooted in the climate and history of Santa Fe. The thick adobe walls provide natural insulation, keeping interiors cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The flat roofs are practical for the arid climate, allowing for rainwater collection. The blend of these styles creates a unique visual identity that is instantly recognizable and contributes to Santa Fe's charm. Instagram+1

When exploring the Santa Fe Building, take a moment to appreciate the craftsmanship and materials used. The textures of the stucco, the details in the woodwork, and the overall harmony with the surrounding landscape all contribute to its significance as a piece of regional architecture. It’s a testament to how buildings can reflect and preserve cultural heritage.

Community and Local Life

The Santa Fe Building is more than just an architectural landmark; it's a hub for community activities and local life. It often serves as a venue for important local events, such as the Tree of Angels Remembrance, a poignant ceremony honoring crime victims. These events highlight the building's role in the social fabric of Santa Fe, providing a space for remembrance, connection, and community support. Reddit

Beyond specific ceremonies, the building houses various offices and services that cater to the needs of Santa Fe residents. This includes county business and potentially other civic functions. While the experience of interacting with these services might vary, as noted in some reviews regarding wait times or communication, it underscores the building's practical importance in the daily lives of locals. Reddit

Experiencing these community aspects can offer a deeper understanding of Santa Fe beyond its tourist attractions. It’s a chance to witness the city's resilience, its traditions, and the everyday interactions that make up its unique character. Keep an eye out for local event postings or inquire about ongoing community initiatives when you visit.
