What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning fall colors and the dramatic mountain scenery along Castle Creek Road. The historic townsite adds a unique charm, and the challenging hikes offer rewarding experiences for the adventurous. However, the road's rough conditions past a certain point can be a deterrent for those with standard vehicles, and some hikes are quite strenuous.
"I wasn't comfortable going up the road past campsite 3 so I hiked from the 2wd trailhead. Brutal hike from the 2wd trailhead. The road is beautiful, but it can suck your energy out before you even get to hiking castle and conundrum.
Very loose rock. The standard route says it's difficult class 2 but it felt like class 3 with a class 4 move up the last 20ft of Castle. Not good for my fear of exposure, but glissading down from the saddle is an amazing experience. I highly recommend it if you have the right gear to self arrest (I went in late day soft snow and was able to stop with spikes and poles). Superb views from the top."

"Great place for a hike. Famous for the Jeep trails, but this person will have a lifetime memory that may not be so good!"
