Queens Public Library (Astoria) EBooks

How does the Queens Public Library compare to other libraries in respect to borrowing Ebooks? I just signed up via the Libby app and it seems there is a long waiting list (15-25 weeks) for many of the titles I look up. And for the most part these aren't current bestsellers.…

Queens Libary

Queens Library's Broadway Branch Closing For Yearlong Renovations

This really sucks. I'm sure it will be great in the long run but right now it feels like everything is closing for us on this section of Broadway - the Walgreens, the Stop and Shop, the library. My daughter just turned five months and I guess meaningful trips to this branch will…

Reviews Summary

The Astoria Branch Queens Public Library is praised for its impressive renovations, particularly its modern and well-equipped computer floor, and its clean facilities. However, some visitors have reported negative experiences with security personnel and staff, citing issues with rudeness, harassment, and unprofessional conduct, which detracts from the overall positive aspects of the library.

"Terrible experience. I became a member of this library just yesterday, and when I returned today with my friend, we were immediately harassed by the security guard. We sat quietly by the computer section to charge our phones, read, and use the computers, yet the guard kept bothering us. He tried to control how we used the computers, insisted we move to another section for no valid reason, and then attempted to kick my friend out altogether. Out of frustration and disgust, I chose to leave with her.

What made the situation even worse was the guard’s racist and degrading behavior. He kept speaking to me as if I couldn’t understand English—even though I am perfectly fluent—while he himself struggled to speak it clearly. It was demeaning, insulting, and completely inappropriate. On top of that, he was rude, condescending, and made us both deeply uncomfortable.

To make matters worse, he fixated on my friend in an extremely disturbing way, staring at her and even licking his lips while doing so. This type of behavior is not only unprofessional but downright disgusting and predatory.

No one should ever have to experience this kind of harassment and racism at a public library. I regret ever signing up for membership here, and I strongly warn others not to come to this library."

"I absolutely LOVE the renovations you've done. The computer floor I think is incomparable. Considering it took FOREVER

I've been waiting quite some time for this location to unveil it's renovations. It has proven worth the wait...except for one caveat: the security guard.

I don't know what his problem is, but it does not entail me having an enjoyable experience in a library.

I've heard him yell at patrons in the stairwell.

Accused people of unsubstantiatiated accusations

This is supposed to be a library. A place to relax and read a book, magazine, etc

Every time I go there when I see him...

I'm going to a library TO NOT feel judged. To read a book, make a copy , or just watch an episode of my favorite show in peace

To take advantage of what the system has to offer, NOT have crazy eyes the moment I walk in.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I won't let that little man detract me from my happy place. But I wanted to let other people know not to take his semis seriously"
