The preserved buildings and unique handcrafted items in the gift shop are frequently highlighted as enjoyable aspects of the visit. While some note its smaller size, most find it a worthwhile and engaging stop.

"This is a wonderful museum, located in the heart of Aurora, Oregon. I go here at least once a year for my handspinning guild's Antique Spinning Wheel Showcase (always the first weekend in March), and there are also a lot of other events that the museum hosts.

The museum is a virtual treasure trove of the history of the area, with plenty of historical photos and displays of many items from the years when the colony was active.

One of the rooms has been turned into a gift shop, with really great handcrafted items in keeping with the atmosphere of the museum. There are several buildings on the property, including Kraus House, and an open barn area.

The staff at the museum is friendly and helpful, and the nominal entrance fee is well worth the price. It's really a wonderful experience to walk through the museum with its wood floors and exhibits. I highly recommend this place no matter what time of year you happen to go."
