What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the abundant wildlife, particularly the alligators and diverse bird species, found at Cattail Marsh. The peaceful atmosphere and scenic boardwalk are frequently praised, making it a relaxing escape. Some note the lack of shade and need to pack out trash, but overall, it's highly recommended for nature lovers.
"First time here. Went as a family and had intentions of walking through the marsh but instead we spent over an hour on the boardwalk listening to birds and the sound of alligators stomping through the water. We walked for awhile after that down a trail after that. It was 89 and there was a cool breeze it was incredibly relaxing. On the way out we went through Tyrrel Park and drove by a beautiful pumpkin display in the arboretum. We will definitely making a trip back out this time going to both places. Would definitely recommend."

"When I woke up to a cool morning in early September, I knew it was the perfect day to do the 5 mile Blue Heron Loop at the marsh. It was the perfect morning. The trail changes scenery enough to remain interesting and you will see tons of wildlife. Keep your eyes on your feet, as a few times I passed within literal feet of a gator before I noticed them. This trail is not shaded so make sure you wear a hat or avoid the hottest times of the day/year. There are also benches about every mile to rest at but no trash cans. Be prepared to pack out any trash you may generate. Trails are mostly gravel and wide."

"Easy to navigate trails with amazing birding. This was our first time birding in Texas, so we were able to add several birds to our life lists. See a couple alligators was a plus too.
The education center opened before we left, so we were able to have a couple questions answered by a friendly employee."
