"A few steeps inclines but beautiful views. We went the first week of June and there were quite a few flowers bloomed along the trail. Took the PCT route back adding a little extra distance."
Jess
"This is a difficult but fabulous hike. Since I was camping at the Serrano Campgrounds I began from my campsite which leads you under the 38 to the Cougar Crest Trailhead. It's an out-and-back route (8.55 miles) which is uphill and it has plenty of switchbacks. Take a lot of water, wear sunscreen, and please, if you bring your dog, make sure they have plenty of water too. I saw people on this hike who underestimated it and turned around and/or did not bring enough water. I followed the Cougar Crest trail all the way to Bertha Peak which provides amazing views of Big Bear Lake. I hiked by myself as the trail was well maintained. I do recommend the AllTrails app which is what I always use when I hike and when I want to map out a hike prior to my arrival at trailheads. Also - be aware of rattlesnakes! I saw a giant one but waited until it slithered away to pass."
