Reviews Summary

Visitors find Pictograph Cave State Park to be a historically significant site with a pleasant, short trail and informative visitor center. While some note that many pictographs have faded over time, the park is still considered a worthwhile stop for its unique glimpse into ancient life and its scenic surroundings. The convenience and historical value are frequently praised, though some wish for more visible art.

"First off, if you're on a motorcycle, be aware that there are some blind curves on the road leading to the visitor center. The road itself isn't in the best condition, but I've seen worse, so just FYI.

Overall, this is a pretty nice state park located in Billings. The visitor center has a small gift shop, nice toilets, and a few displays of artifacts on display. The caves themselves are nice, but I could only see three pictographs and the signage indicates many more. I can only assume that they've simply succumbed to the elements and aren't visible anymore.

The park itself is nice with some nice rock features surrounding the area, so that's a nice bonus. This park is definitely worth a stop if you're in the area or passing through."

"Cool spot to check out if you're in the Billings area. Drive out to the park is filled with beautiful opportunities for pictures as well. There's a small gift shop that also offers information about the park itself. There's a small fee to access the park but it's well worth the price."

Adam Stetzel

"This is a small park and you can probably see what you need in 30 minutes to an hour. Convenient to the interstate.

Cool history but not much left of the pictographs. I like visiting state parks so I was happy to add this one to my list, but don't have a huge desire to return."

These rock paintings, created by early hunters and gatherers, offer a rare glimpse into the lives, beliefs, and daily activities of people who inhabited this region over 2,000 years ago. The most significant pictographs are located in the main Pictograph Cave, the deepest of the three caves in the park. TikTokInstagram
