"A treasure trove of rare books, manuscripts, and literary history!
This place is a dream for book lovers and history enthusiasts. With its incredible collection of rare and unique items, it offers a chance to experience pieces of history up close.

During my visit, I was amazed to see a Gutenberg Bible, one of the rarest books in the world. I also loved exploring the first editions of famous literary works and handwritten letters from authors like Mark Twain and Sylvia Plath. The exhibits change regularly, so there’s always something new to discover. The best part was how friendly and knowledgeable the staff were, offering fascinating stories and details about the collections.

Admission is free, and guided tours are available for those who want a deeper experience. I recommend setting aside time to browse at your own pace—the peaceful reading rooms are perfect for enjoying the atmosphere.

"Visiting the Lilly library was one of the coolest experiences I’ve had for a while. They have such a unique collection of invaluable items. Every item I had the opportunity to look at transported me to a different time and place. I paged through a book that was signed by Darwin, saw original engravings from Robert Hooke’s microscope observations, and touched maps by Ptolemy."

Eve Cusack

"The collections at this library are extrodinary. It's not a large library but what it was well worth driving out of my way to see. They had a puzzle display that included ones available to try to solve which kept my 13 year old busy while I explored. The young woman working the desk was very helpful, pointing out things I might like other than just the Gutenburg Bible, which is what I'd come to see. It was a wonderful experience."
