What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Maine Forest and Logging Museum for its authentic working machinery, particularly the steam Lombard log haulers and sawmill, and the glimpse into pioneer life. The scenic grounds and trails are also a highlight. However, some reviewers have expressed frustration with inconsistent opening hours and difficulty confirming them, leading to closed buildings on planned visits.
"Well worth the visit! We were here on a quiet Saturday morning in early fall, and we were the only visitors at the time. Since there are no staff present most of the time, The buildings and homes at the preserved pioneer settlement were fun to view, even on a self guided tour. The covered bridge and water powered sawmill were a highlight. Walking around the rest of the grounds was very easy. We’ll definitely visit again for their events."

"Tried visiting on a Sunday and a Friday, both before 4 pm… both times the museum and machinery buildings were closed. The grounds are very pretty, but if you want to actually visit the museum, I don’t know when you can. Tried calling the number on Google and on their website, the number dropped on both. Tried emailing, no response. Not sure when this place is actually ever open."

"This was an absolutely magical journey! What we expected to be a simple walk through the woods turned into an adventure we won't forget soonnnn! The woods provided for us. A bowl was found. Numerous walking sticks were acquired. Mowls were fended off. And friendships were strengthened due to facing common challenges and empathizing as we grew to overcome said challenges. Also, some really cool mushrooms! They tasted yummy, or so I've been told... I wish the gift shop was open but oh well! Maybe next time I'll get a sticker :)
In case you tooooo want an adventure filled with Maine spirit, come to Maine Forest and Logging Museum and hike the blue trail! Just be wary of the mowls! 🫎🦉"
