"Nice 4 mile hike. Starts out pretty flat and while it does get a little steep, it's not too terrible in that capacity. John Rock itself is a little smaller than I thought it would be and there's a noticeable downward slope that leads off of the edge of the cliff. It is pretty wide though. It was a little wet out on the ledge itself so do be careful. There's about 12-15 feet of ledge and then nothing so if you do slip you could potentially keep going. Beautiful view though!"

"The hike to John Rock via Cat Cow Track was really enjoyable. The travel was really well marked, with support of a little map from the Parks office. The view at the top was fantastic, with a 180 degree panorama. It provided a fantastic view of the Looking Glass rock and parts of the parkway looping in the distant trees.
The path featured a few creek crossings and a few log bridge crossings. The forest featured rhododendrons, lavish wildflowers, and other deciduous trees.
Wear grippy shoes as the rock was steep."
