Mount Mitchell
Hey yall! My husband and I are going to Asheville mid August and wanna hike Mount Mitchell. We’ve both done a ton of 14ers in Colorado, so aren’t scared for a lil difficulty. But this will be our first NC hike! Wondering what gear you recommend though - bear spray? Poles? Thanks!

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Mount Mitchell for its breathtaking panoramic views from the highest peak east of the Mississippi. The scenic drive and numerous overlooks are highlights, offering stunning vistas. While the summit trail is steep, its short length and rewarding views make it worthwhile for most. Be prepared for frequent fog, which can obscure visibility but also create dramatic scenery.
"Mt. Michell is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River at an elevation of 6,684'. You can drive most of the way up and stop along the way at different overlooks for some pretty views! Once you get to the parking lot, there are signs to the trail. The trail is a 0.1 mile path that is paved and maintained very well. It is a little steep. Keep that in mind if you have a stoller or wheelchair. The hike itself was fairly easy, in my opinion. But even if it is a little challenging for you, just take it easy and go at your own pace because it is definitely worth it for the breathtaking views!"

"Love the paved pathway all the way to the top. Unfortunately the clouds were sitting on the mountain, and we couldn't see the other mountains. But the drive was beautiful the flowers were in bloom all the way up and they were beautiful."
Suzanne Burns
"It's a short and rather steep uphill walk to the top. But it is so worth it. Magnificent panoramic view awaits you and even during low visibility situation during very cloudy day, you won't regret making a trip here."
