The unique ecosystem and varied hiking trails are major draws, though some find certain routes challenging due to steepness and erosion. The scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway is also a highlight.
"What a beautiful view — 6,523 ft up!
The drive to Mount Mitchell State Park is absolutely scenic with plenty of viewpoints along the way. The mountain roads are a bit narrow, so it’s not ideal for new drivers, but the journey is totally worth it. We visited during the fall season, and the view from the top was breathtaking — it’s one of those places where you just want to sit quietly and take in the beauty around you. 🍂🏞️"

"We visited Mt.Mitchell in October during peak leaf season. Unfortunately, the higher elevation of Mt.Mitchell was past it's peak. But it was still totally worth the drive and the walk. We were up above the clouds on a beautiful fall morning. We got wonderful pictures and a nice little workout. We would definitely do it again. The drive getting there is spectacular."

"It's worth checking out, especially in October. You'll need to use this address in Google Maps: 867VQP8M+HW, otherwise, it'll just drop you on the road instead of the visitor center or a hike. The museum could use some updates, but this spot itself is really cool and has a lot of potential for improvement. It's a breezy and relaxing place to hang out with the family."
