There’s a hidden WWII bunker in San Diego thats been vacant since the 1960s. Originally built right after Pearl Harbor, and used as a communications and lookout base. Its not well known to even locals of the city. There are some real neat historical backstories to this site and some of the researchers that worked here may have had a significant impact on World War II. #History #educational #LearnO...

Reviews Summary

Visitors find the World War II Lookout Tower a valuable historical gem in Cape May, offering fascinating insights into wartime defense and impressive coastal views. The friendly staff and well-preserved structure are frequently praised, with many recommending combo tickets for added value. While the climb is easy, some may find the historical context more engaging than the physical structure itself.

"Most people merely think of Cape May as just beaches, but there is so much more of historical value in the area.
The Cape May World War 2 Lookout Tower is one such valuable venue.
As noted, this was one of 15 observation towers built to quell the possibility of foreign troops and submarine incursions and invasions during the early days of World War 2 along the Jersey shore and Delaware Bay, when such events were considered a real likelihood.
The real marvel of this structure is that, despite being rather hastily built (in just weeks), it has withstood the test of time, even with all the hostile weather that this region has endured, for now over 80 years.
That is a true testament to the builders of this edifice.
There is much knowledge that can be learned from a venture inside, but even if your visit to this National Historic Site comes during off hours, or in the off season, it is still worth the time to spend a few minutes walking around the grounds outside, and taking in the sights of the tower itself, and the many informative signboards around the site.
Whether you go inside the tower or not, you will come away with a wealth of knowledge and perspective about the times of this tower"
