Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Carbon River Rainforest's magical, peaceful atmosphere and awe-inspiring old-growth trees, calling it a dreamlike experience. While the main loop is easy and accessible, longer trails offer more challenge. Some note the area can be busy, but it still feels private beyond the initial mile. Be prepared for potential rain and muddy spots, as it is a true rainforest.

"Easy hike on well maintained paved and fine gravels path along the picturesque Carbon River through awe inspiring old growth temperate rainforest. Reminiscent of Trail of the Cedars in Glacier, MT, massive western reds dot the landscape. Very busy all year due to its close proximity to Seattle and Tacoma, but still feels private after the one mile mark, and endless opportunities to explore the glacier fed Carbon River. Dispersed camping near park entrance, riverfront. Vault toilets were clean(ish). MANY bikes."

Andrew “Hundice” Frostman

"Lush, peaceful, and completely magical.
The Carbon River Rainforest feels like walking into a dream — towering moss-covered trees, soft trails, and the gentle sound of the river flowing beside you. It’s a quieter part of Mount Rainier, which makes it perfect if you’re looking to escape the crowds.

Easy to moderate trails, and every corner looks like a screensaver. Just be ready for a bit of rain or muddy spots — it’s a rainforest, after all. Totally worth it!"

Akshaya Shashidhar

"With the Mt Rainier park closed for winter, we found this trail to get a little close and to see something new. We feel like we hit gold with this option, the experience for out of towners was very good. Quite a difficult uphill trail, but probably not “hard” for people that hike a lot. Our 7 year old daughter was good with it, but she definitely got tired before it was over. The nature around is amazing and special, blows your mind a bit, and also quiet and good for reflection."
