What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the authentic steam train experience and the breathtaking mountain scenery, especially during fall. The historic town and informative museum are also highlights. However, some guests have noted unfriendly staff at the station, contrasting with the positive interactions with train crews.
"We went here on a trip through WV because my wife's father used to take them here when she was a kid. The museum was very nice and even the tourist store had some neat items. We did not ride the train but I am sure that would be fun. The docent/information guy in the museum was very helpful. His name was Nathaniel (a young guy). I asked him a question and he had so much information and knowledge that we spent a long time speaking with him. He was also drawing an incredibly detailed drawing of a locomotive. He had a lot of talent. If you go there, don't just ignore the museum, spend some time. It was extremely interesting."

"Not a single employee at the station was friendly. Not one. Acted as if the tourists were interrupting their day. Locals acted the same. Have never been in an environment and had such attitude. As much as it cost one would think they would have at least been nice. All folks on the train working were wonderful. Lunch stop was very cool. People in Durbin were nice."

"An absolutely wonderful steam engine experience combined with Fall foliage – The perfect mixture of an exciting adventure and yet so relaxing at the same time. We met some absolutely lovely fellow passengers on this trip we’ll definitely keep in touch with. The staff were really helpful and good at what they did. . We were really impressed by the drivers/engineers/coalmen professionalism and the sense of enjoyment they brought to the day. Do go and see for yourselves!"
