"Stunning 6.5mi lakefront loop near C’ville! Scenic lake & forest trails, perfect for hiking & biking 😊. Challenging slopes & big steps on left path—take right for easier climb 😕. Smooth paths, rest stops, & canoeing options. Icy winter roads a challenge. Been 3x, can’t wait to bring wife! 9/10, a gem!"

"Smaller parking area but beautiful peaceful lake perfect for paddling! The walking trails looked nice"

"This is a peaceful trail to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, and it’s free entry. The 7mi “lake front loop” (refer to the trail map) is pleasing if you enjoy the scenic water views and access to the mile marker benches to stretch, rest and refuel. Personally, I got turned around a few times due to the trail splitting into different directions at times with no identifiable trail marker of what the paths led to. So instead of the advertised 7mi it became a 8.3mi hike for me. I went in March after some heavy rain and thunderstorms in the preceding week. There were trail markers down and 3 areas with large fallen trees blocking the path requiring off-trail hikes into the wood brush or climbing over the fallen tree trunks. The trail appears quite enjoyable for mountain bike riding and I may try that later in the Spring. There are several other trails (Heyward, Upper, Peninsula…) that intersect so studying the map before hand may be useful. Lastly, I’d recommend, when walking, starting the 7mi trail at least 4hr before sunset as the parking lot gate closes at dusk. Give yourself a time cushion to relax, explore, get lost on the trail and personally found again without anxiety of being in the woods or potentially locked in after dark."
