Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Five Forks Battlefield for its knowledgeable park rangers and the opportunity to hike through historically significant grounds. The blend of nature and history is a major draw, offering a peaceful yet educational experience. Some trails can be overgrown, and spiderwebs are common, but the overall sentiment is positive for those seeking a unique historical and outdoor adventure.

"The Park Ranger at the Visitor Center was knowledgeable, kind, enthusiastic, and a great way to start the trip! He gave us an overview of the battle and explained various items in the visitor center (great little history lesson) and then instead of doing the driving tour we hiked a 7-mile patchwork of various trails through the park. It was wonderful exercise with great history and scenery. One caution if you are hiking -- about 5 miles in or so the spiderwebs start showing up, well a lot. Probably due to minimal people hiking, so enjoy the terrain and keep an eye out for those woven beauties!
Thank you to the full time and part time federal employees and volunteers who make wonderful places like this possible!"

"Set in the battlegrounds of one of the last civil war encounters, hiking Five Forks provides great exercise under towering pines. Using All Trails app is helpful near the end as the trail tends to be overgrown & less defined. Otherwise, follow the yellow blaze trail (always choose left) which circumnavigates the park. The trail basically offers a smooth, pine needle floor amidst beautiful, surroundings pine trees. It's an easy, hike made challenging by the 6.5+ miles duration. It's definitely worth the long drive from RVA to the Dinwiddle area. Visitors Center & parking area is permanently closed. You can park a little beyond the entrance & walk back to the TH just left of the Center."

"It was such a nice day we decided to drive down to Dinwiddie Co. to walk some of the Five Forks Battlefield trails. Who who would’ve expected to find rocks like this there. Even though the visitors center parking lot was closed the equestrian Trail parking lot was open which served our needs perfectly. When we got back we even found a Dinwiddie Co. sheriffs deputy protecting our car."

Understanding this context enhances the visitor's appreciation of the battlefield's significance. Reddit

Key figures in the battle include Union Major General Philip Sheridan and Confederate Major General George Pickett.
