"Hapgood Wright is a nice patch of conservation land that offers everything a dog could want: woods, paths, squirrels, mud to roll in (esp by Brister's Spring) and a pond to rinse off in after. It also has a shrine to Dr. Seuss's Lorax, and the Trail of Pithy Sayings.
A wonderful place to amble!"

"Beautiful space. I hiked the parts of the Emerson Thoreau Amble here, but it was flooded toward the northern end. Vernal pools in the spring. As with all wet New England forests, the bugs get bad around the end of May."
Ann Thomas
"This is a dog friendly trail that is a fairly flat/easy walk around the pond. There is more challenging terrain if you want to climb but it's up to you.
This was donated by: Hapgood Wright
People have attempted to name it fairyland because art projects keep showing up. Nature is beautiful enough so all the art work is not necessary. Keep the art of you must but don't you dare exspunge Hapgood Weights contribution to which this would NOT exist. Keep the art of you must but it is not "fairland". Go assault some other park.
I am grateful this land exists because getting into Walden's Pond is an event. I'm sure Thoreau would be appalled at the commercialism of the pond. Not what he was talking about."

The 'Fairyland' Phenomenon
This phenomenon is a testament to the community's engagement with the space. The art is temporary and often blends with the surroundings, creating delightful surprises for hikers. It's a reminder that public spaces can be shaped by collective expression, though it's important to respect the conservation efforts and the original intent of the land's donation.
Navigating the Trails and Terrain
Be aware that certain areas, particularly near Brister's Spring and in the northern sections, are prone to becoming muddy, especially after rain or during the spring thaw. These wet areas also contribute to the presence of vernal pools, which are fascinating ecosystems to observe. As the weather warms into late May, these damp environments can also attract a higher concentration of insects, so insect repellent is recommended. The trail markings themselves have been noted as occasionally confusing, so keeping a general sense of direction or using a trail app can be helpful for deeper exploration.
