What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Coral Gables Museum for its historical insights into the city's roots and its charming, historic building. The staff are consistently noted for their warmth and helpfulness. While some find the exhibits could be more interactive, the museum offers a valuable glimpse into local heritage and hosts engaging art events.
"As a new resident of Coral Gables, I decided to visit the Coral Gables Museum to learn more about the city’s roots—and I’m glad I did. The building itself, a former fire station, doesn’t look particularly impressive from the outside, but it has historical charm and nice architectural details.
The staff at the front desk gave us a warm welcome and provided clear directions to help us make the most of the visit. The main exhibit about the city’s history and founders was quite engaging. I especially appreciated learning about the boundaries and significant landmarks of Coral Gables—it helped me connect more with the city.
The museum could benefit from more interactivity or modern presentation methods, but the historical content is solid. One room featured interesting art and photography, though I would have liked more context or explanations for what I was seeing.
The gallery about the building’s past as a fire station was also nice, though it felt like it could be more developed. I was particularly impressed by the letters and documents from George Merrick, the city’s founder, which gave a deeper sense of Coral Gables’ origins.
There was one section related to the Giralda of Seville, which seemed to tie into some landmarks around town, but I didn’t fully grasp the connection—some more information there would be helpful.
The only real downside for me was the background music playing in the museum—it didn’t match the tone or subject matter and felt distracting. Maybe it was just a bad day for audio.
Overall, the museum offers a meaningful glimpse into the city’s history and would be a great starting point for anyone new to the area. I hope they expand or rotate their exhibitions in the future to keep things fresh."

"Nice museum. Great location. The staff is outstanding. They have a few exhibit rooms, so if one is under construction the museum is a little light. We were in and out in 15 minutes, which is the only reason to drop a few stars. But if you are in the neighborhood it’s worth a visit. I think they have events there which would be a great venue."

"Very beautiful small museum in coral gables. Has about 10 rooms with art work. I was one of about 3 people there and it was a Sunday so it was not crowded at all. The staff are very nice. The entrance is $10 and when I left they asked if I could do a survey on my experience. The outside also has a staircase you can go up and see all of the buildings. Parking is on the side of the road, there's no parking lot."
