What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Dog Slaughter Falls for its stunning beauty and rewarding hike, calling it a magical and serene spot. The challenging yet manageable terrain makes it a great adventure for families and hikers alike. However, some note the frequent absence of the bridge and the potential for numerous downed trees, which can impact accessibility.
"We hiked Dog Slaughter Falls Trail with our two kids and had a great time. We're in our 40s, and it was a good challenge without being overwhelming. It's not just a walk in the woods—definitely a hike—with lots of up and down terrain that kept things interesting.
One heads-up: the bridge across the creek near the trailhead is currently out. That said, it’s still passable if you're careful. We also encountered a few trees down across the trail, but they were easy to step over, duck under, or walk around.
The falls at the end are absolutely beautiful and make it all worth it! There are a few spots where the trail splits, so it helps to stay aware of your route to avoid getting turned around.
Overall, a peaceful, scenic, and rewarding hike for the whole family. We’d definitely do it again!"

"Moderate hike for sure, but great views along the trail. We did the short hike from the closer trail head, about 2.5 miles out and back, but the trail does continue past the falls. Early October visit, so water was not flowing as much, but still worth the hike overall. Several people walking dogs of various sizes, but I could see some areas where small dogs may need to be carried. Parking on side of the road with a few pull off spots."

"As of May 17th 2025, we found this trail location impossible to hike due to >100+ trees down on the path. Not sure if it was caused by the severe weather may 16th 2025 or maybe from hurricane Helena in 2024. I feel this trail may take years to get it cleared out. We found it easier to wonder the wood but with out cell service we turned back."
