What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the impressive life-size bison sculpture and the historical exhibits, particularly those related to Native American culture and the film 'Dances with Wolves.' However, some find the admission price a bit high and note that the entrance and signage can be confusing. The quality of the on-site film and initial greeting have also been points of criticism for a few.
"Amazing Exhibit. Amazing story of how this place came about thanks to Mr. Kevin Costner. Amazing actor and person. The Sculptures are a true work of art not only they themselves but how they are positioned"

"Tatanka Story museum tells a story of survival in the Old West when the Buffalo hunters and gold seekers came to the Black Hills and in the process of getting rich were pushing out the native tribes. This sad story has been told many times but the one version many have enjoyed watching on the silver screens is a film created by Kevin Costner ... Dances With Wolves... you can as well see many original items including the ceremonial dresses, weapons and uniforms in this very fine museum."

"It was a great location, and the sculptures were amazing to look at. The artifacts on exhibit in the visitor center, and the video explaining the origin of the Tatanka experience dwas interesting. But probably the most interesting part, that we didn’t know, is that this whole display is the result of Kevin Costner‘s experience in the area while he was filming the movie “Dances with Wolves”. He was so personally moved by the story of the native Americans and the bison that he felt the need to express it. In general, I think it’s a bit overpriced, but worth a stop."
