What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Bailey Point Nature Preserve for its stunning river views, abundant wildlife (especially bald eagles), and convenient location adjacent to Main Street. The well-maintained, accessible trails make it a pleasant spot for leisurely walks and nature appreciation. Some minor drawbacks include occasional traffic noise and the presence of leeches in the river during warmer months.
"As a seasoned park reviewer with over 100 parks evaluated and a former Parks Director, I am pleased to endorse this park. It features exceptional views of the Mississippi and Elk River rivers. The park is a popular destination for leisurely strolls and taking in its natural beauty. Personally, it is my favorite nature-based park within the Elk River Park system, primarily due to its strategic location at the confluence of the Elk and Mississippi Rivers.
Its accessibility is a notable advantage, situated mere steps away from Main Street, with a parking lot and adjacent trailhead providing access to the park's natural grass trails. This park offers numerous breathtaking views and a prime vantage point of the William H. Houlton Conservation Area located across the Elk River Bailey Point holds sentimental value as the city's inaugural park acquisition along the Mississippi River.
The park features memorial benches, beautifully designed as a tribute, which have become the standard design for all Elk River Park benches and can be ordered online through the city. In partnership with the Friends of the Mississippi River, the park's restoration plan was completed in April 2016. The park's Master Plan layout is detailed on page 61 of the 2015 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. I highly recommend visiting this park in any season, and I assure you that it will exceed your expectations."
