Reviews Summary

Fort Bayard National Cemetery is widely praised for its immaculate maintenance and serene atmosphere, offering a beautiful and respectful tribute to veterans. Visitors appreciate the well-kept grounds and readable tombstones. However, the adjacent historic fort site presents challenges, notably a significant feral animal population and concerns about its upkeep.

"This review is meant not for the cemetery itself, which is lovely and meticulously maintained, but for the fort itself.
This place is amazing, but it's got a huge feral cat problem. The lady that feeds and perpetuates this problem is extremely hostile and rude, and will threaten to call the police if she thinks you are walking your dog too close to the cats. It's rediculous. These cats continuously kill the interesting birds in the area, despite it's status as a location on the NM Birding Trail. Finally, a lot of the food this person puts out isn't even cat food, but stuff like bread. Essentially she is feeding not only these feral cats but also skunks, javelina and coyote as well. It's just a matter of time before we see large predators like mountain lions frequent this area as well. For whatever reason the city of Santa Clara chooses not to address this issue which will only lead to a more expensive problem in the future. I hope that Santa Clara does the right thing and implements a trap, fix and release program that leads to a humane solution, was I do not want to see these cats euthanized, but not doing anything at all isn't working either."
