What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking Lake Michigan views from the bluffs and the scenic, well-maintained trails. The rocky beach offers a unique spot to relax by the water. Some find the beach less ideal for swimming and note the prevalence of mosquitoes on the trails.
"This trail offers a charming experience with a lovely, albeit rocky, beach. One should be prepared to navigate several flights of stairs to access the beach.
The trail itself is roughly a 2-mile loop, characterized by its width and generally level terrain. It is worth noting that mosquitoes can be quite prevalent, so bringing ample bug spray and any other necessary items is advisable.
It was my first time seeing Lake Michigan, and I was truly captivated. The opposite shore was not visible, and the water's blue hue was simply stunning. We enjoyed the water barefoot, finding it a bit chilly. Some individuals were swimming, while many others were relaxing on the beach, taking in the scenery.
My fiancé and I intend to revisit this location with friends to spend time on the beach. I would certainly recommend a visit, although the trail might be considered somewhat short and easy for a hike."

"Absolutely breathtaking! We took our family on a hike through the nature preserve, and the moment we reached the gorge, it completely took our breath away. The trail was full of natural beauty—twisted roots, fallen trees, and scenes that felt like living artwork. It’s a perfect family-friendly hike that inspires awe and appreciation for the raw beauty of nature. Just be prepared for some roots along the path—it’s all part of the authentic experience in a place this wild and wonderful. Highly recommended!"

"This was really great. Plenty of parking, and clean bathrooms. The trails are really well maintained. We did the trail to the beach which was really nice and peaceful but there were a lot of mosquitoes. So bug spray is a good idea but once you get on the beach, mosquitoes don't bother you. We went for a swim (good idea to have water shoes of some sort as it's pretty rocky). Really great place to hang out for a couple hours!"
