Ski Butternut?
Hi ice coast, I’m getting back into skiing after a 10 year hiatus and have fallen back in love with the sport. This season I didn’t start until January but have made it out on the mountain most weekends for day trips. My one issue is my location. As a southern CT girl, most of…

Great Barrington Ski Trip?
Obviously not for this year since I’d imagine the Southern Berkshires close up shop for the year in the next few days but This might be wild since Great Barrington and Ludlow/Dover are pretty much the same drive from where I’m at but is Great Barrington worth it for a weekend?…
Mid March - taking kids skiing first time (and my first time in 20 years)! Butternut good pick? Mohawk?
We are planning to take our kids for the first time in the middle of March. Would love a place with a decent ski school or good lessons for semi private, decent rentals and enough of a town to do some stuff if skiing doesn’t turn out to be everyone’s favorite activity :) We are…

Butternut or Belleayre for beginners?
If you had to choose between Butternut and Belleayre for beginners, where would you go? I've been skiing for a long time but my husband and daughters (8 and 12) are newbies. They've only gone a few times. We're located in PA and we'd like to venture beyond the Poconos for a…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Ski Butternut is praised for its excellent terrain park and family-friendly atmosphere, making it a charming spot in the Berkshires. While some find the lifts slow and onsite food pricey, the consistent snowmaking and welcoming environment make it a popular choice for all skill levels, especially beginners and freestylers.
"Brought my 11 year old niece for two two-hour sessions.
Tubing area is set away from all the skiers and snowboarders, on a separate hill across the parking lot.
Hill wasn't very big IMO, but it was still fun, and my niece had a blast. Paid $140 for four hours, and seemed worth it.
Staff was VERY friendly and welcoming.
Fair amount of people (4-8pm on a Saturday in February), but there was about 8 lanes to ride down. After sundown, they turn on the lights and music.
Electric lift gets very crowded, and I opted to walk up the hill each time, and skip the line. They kept stopping the lift for seemingly no reason, so had to wait for niece a few times. Staff is attentive to ensure no injuries.
Only complaint is that people stand at top of lane, as they want to go down the same time as their friends, with no consideration for people waiting. If you are next to go, and the lane is open, then GO! If your friends aren't ready, stand to the side and let someone else go. Common courtesy, but not much staff can do about this.
Nice little food truck, we had tiny hot chocolates and a fried dough ($20). Pretty expensive, so I suggest bringing your own snacks.
Plan to come back and maybe do a lesson. Looks like there were many hills to ride. Only other mountain I've been to is Ski Sundown, and this looked bigger/better to me."

"Great little mountain in southern mass. Not technically difficult but very charming. Although the lifts are slow, Mountain makes up for it in charm and functionality. Good variety of terrain. Where butternut really shines is the terrain park. one of the best terrain parks in the area for sure. snow making and grooming are top-notch. lift tickets are very reasonable. Easy Stars here"

"I made my first trip ever up there the other day with my son to get a helmet to take advantage of the huge sale that’s going on. Went to purchase a helmet and was told they can’t be sold unless they’re fitted, which is fine and respectable as I know the saftey of boarders and skiers are important. The woman helping was younger, blonde, with braces. She started to fit helmets on my son’s head, and without strapping anything only tightening the inside of the helmet and pushes the front of the helmet back with force so it slid back; meanwhile before this we had already tried a bunch on and these helmets WERE NOT moving freely when he shook his head side to side and back and forth. . We tried every size and “nothing fit him and they won’t sell it to us” it forced us to find another place to get fitted for a helmet as we were confused and also cared about my child’s saftey only to find out the helmet that ended up fitting him is one of the very ones we tried on there! So we went up for the sale and ended up having to pay full price for the SAME helmet/size/color/brand somewhere else."
