What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Beartown State Forest for its beautiful scenery, well-maintained trails, and family-friendly atmosphere, particularly around Benedict Pond. While camping requires strict adherence to reservation times, the spacious sites and natural beauty make it a worthwhile experience. Some trails can be muddy, requiring appropriate footwear.
"East of Great Barrington, MA is Beartown State Forest. There's a wonderfully, easy walk around Benedict Pond called the Pond Trail that you should do. It's only a 1.5 mile loop with views of the waters. It can even be said you hiked a section of the AT as it crosses the far end of the pond before branching off. The near side of the pond trail has some soggy spots, but can be cleverly averted, while the far side has some interesting rocky terrain. Parking fees via online app during summer months."
Gordon Shaffer
"Such a sweet forest - camp sites are spacious. Gotta reserve by 2pm though. No last minute camping 🙃"
Alicia Leinberger
"Well maintained and well marked trail from park road to lookout, culminating at small clearing with two picnic benches. Excellent views to south and west is worth the easy/moderate uphill walk; approx.1/2 mile.
Note: parking@trailhead limited to 2-3 vehicles on rd's shoulder; ample parking at Benedict Pond below, then continuing by foot to Lookout Trail."
