Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking beauty of Hanakapi'ai Beach and the Napali Coast views, calling the hike a highlight of their Kauai trip. The adventurous sea cave and the option to hike to the falls are frequently mentioned as unforgettable experiences. However, many caution strongly against swimming due to dangerous currents, and the challenging, muddy trail requires careful preparation.
"Hanakāpīʻai Beach was one of my favorite spots on Kauai. Even though signs warn that it’s dangerous to swim here, I had a great time in the water and felt completely alive. The waves were strong but manageable the day I went. Just be smart, read the ocean, and know your limits.
But the real gem is the hidden sea cave to the left side of the beach.
After reaching the sand, walk left along the rocks. Eventually, you’ll find a narrow crawl space that opens into a stunning sea cave. Make sure to go at low tide. If the water rises, you can get stuck on the other side. It’s totally worth it if you’re up for a little adventure.
🎥 I posted a full reel from inside the cave so you can see how wild and beautiful it is.

"The Hanakāpī‘ai Beach Trail is the gateway to Kauaʻi’s legendary Nā Pali Coast—lush jungle paths, dramatic cliffside views, and the reward of a wild, secluded beach. The scenery is stunning, but the trail has its challenges: steep, muddy switchbacks, slippery rocks, and the ever-present reminder that this is untamed coastline.
The hike is about 4 miles round trip with ~1135 feet of elevation gain, starting at Ke‘e Beach in Hāʻena State Park. Getting there requires a park entry + parking reservation (or shuttle), which must be booked in advance. While the beach is beautiful, swimming is dangerous due to powerful currents.
With sturdy footwear, water, and a permit secured, this hike makes a fantastic half-day adventure. If you have the time and stamina, you can extend another 4 miles RT inland to Hanakāpī‘ai Falls for an unforgettable jungle-and-waterfall experience."

"Awesome secluded beach accessible by a 1-2 hour hike from the bus shuttle. There are two caves, one is walkthrough. Doesn't get too crowded, because the daily number of visitors is controlled by the park. Swimming is not recommended on account of strong currents, however you can dip and enjoy the waves, just stay close to the beach. There's even an awesome freshwater stream to freshen up before hiking back!"
