What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tunnels Beach is overwhelmingly praised for its breathtaking beauty and incredible snorkeling opportunities, with visitors spotting a vast array of fish. The dramatic mountain backdrop and natural shade are also significant draws. However, the extremely limited parking and the reef's sharp edges are recurring points of caution.
"This beach is STUNNING. It’s the prettiest beach we went to on Kauai. The views are gorgeous, the sand is nice, and the snorkeling was incredible. We saw SO many fish of different varieties and sizes!"

"Awesome beach. Fantastic snorkeling. Nice shade trees along the beach. Tunnels parking is very limited. We parked at Haena Beach which is only a short walk to Tunnels along the beach. Haena has bathrooms, outdoor showers, and more parking. You still need to get there early, before 8 am to get a parking spot. Wet cave nearby is also very cool."

"Great beach overall. Here’s a quick breakdown for visitors.
1. Parking: there are 2 short driveways and a main parking area just down the road at Ha ‘ena Park. Be careful and look at all signs near the driveways and parking lot. Several cars that did not head the signs were ticketed. If you go to the parking lot, wait your turn by the fruit stand right at the beginning of the lot. It’s helpful to have a passenger get out and walk down the parking lot to identify an open spot. People do come and go, so if you are patient, you will find a spot.
2. Beach access: it is a long walk on the beach from the parking lot to the main snorkeling area of Tunnels Beach. Plan accordingly
3. Shade/Umbrellas: There are many shady areas along the beach with a nice breeze.
4. Snorkeling: plenty of nice areas to snorkel. I loved the drop off and swimming along this transition and seeing all the little fish.
5. Restrooms are near the parking lot at Ha ‘ena Park."

Snorkeling Paradise: Exploring Tunnels Reef
When planning your snorkeling adventure, it's crucial to be aware of the reef's proximity to the water's surface. Some sections can be quite high, posing a risk of cuts if you're not careful. Additionally, rip currents can be present, though they are often weak. It's always recommended to snorkel with a buddy, stay aware of ocean conditions, and heed any posted warnings. The best time for snorkeling is typically during the calmer summer months when the water is clearest and most serene.
For the best experience, consider bringing your own snorkel gear or renting it nearby.
