What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Black Oak Ridge Conservation Area offers a quiet escape with extensive gravel trails, ideal for hikers and bikers seeking solitude. While some find the landscape utilitarian and note potential industrial elements, others appreciate the peacefulness and opportunities for wildlife spotting, especially in winter. Be prepared for overgrown dirt paths and limited facilities.
"Jan 12 Sunday. This was the first snow of this season in Oak Ridge. Hiking here in the pristine snow is a completely new experience. Have hiked this trail network several times. Covered 9 miles in 3 hours. Most of the trail is on gravel, two connections on dirt. Met no hikers but a group of mountain bikers. Saw many animal tracks. Had a good time hiking with my canine kid in the snow."

"This is a fairly unimpressive hiking area as it primarily consists of a gravel greenway along a power line. Similar to the nearby Northern Boundary hiking area, there are actual hiking trails branching off of the greenway.
Some of the pics I've attached are off the main trail during exploration.
Parking at the trailhead is unprotected as it as at nearly all trailheads, so lock up and don't leave valuables in your vehicle.
This is not a park or playground or picnic area. It is for hiking, biking or jogging only."

"Basically an old service road hike, I'm not sure how long it is but I hiked in almost two and a half miles and then turned around and came back. But it was nice because I never saw anyone the whole way. And very quiet. I did see two deer."
