Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace for its historical significance, free admission, and peaceful atmosphere. Many appreciate the educational value and the opportunity to connect with a key moment in American history. Some note that facilities may be closed during government shutdowns, but the grounds often remain accessible.

"It’s still so rural out in this area. It probably still looks very similar to how it looked back when ol’ Honest Abe popped out. Well, except for the fact that a tree virus wiped out billions, yes, billions of chestnut trees that densely populated the area. They are trying to bring them back though.
It was really cold when I visited today, and there were only a couple of other people there. I wandered around and took in the scenery and visited the cabin that is inside the building. It is a cabin from the same area and time period, but the ranger told me that they have ruled it out as being the actual cabin that Lincoln was born in. Bummer. Still cool to look at."

"Went during the government shutdown, but the park was was still accessible. We parked just outside the closed gate in the shoulder of the main entrance. The pedestrian gate was open so we just walked the short road down to the site. It was beautiful with lots of history to learn. Don't forget to check out the Boyhood Home site too which is just 15min away. There is also a great local private Lincoln museum on the Hodgenville sqaure."

Kristin

"We stopped here on 7 Oct while staying in Elizabethtown as part of a 2-week vacation through Kentucky and West Virginia. Unfortunately, the site was not open with park rangers present, so the gate was closed, the visitor center was not open, and you could not get inside the memorial to see the cabin. You could, however, park outside the gate and walk in, so we got to see all the grounds, except the inside things. It's still worth the visit to stand in one of the important sites of Abraham Lincoln's life."
