"If Waimea Valley feels like a well-curated garden of Hawaiian endemic plants, this place feels more like nature’s wild side—diverse, lush, and almost primitive. The trails are quieter, more private, and give you the sense that you’re walking closer to nature. Plus, catching glimpses of the mountain range from inside the valley was a nice surprise.
But fair warning: the mosquitoes here are thriving! During our whole stay in Oahu, we barely saw any, but today they threw a party. I gave a donation at the visitor center, while my wife ended up giving a “blood donation” to the mosquitoes. 🦟😂"

"Beautiful place with wonderful views, however if you come during raining season prepare to bring ponchos/rainjackets as it can get pretty rainy at times (more than I was expecting). Also put on bug spray (they sell at the gift shop if you don’t have), it is absolutely a necessity as I got bitten pretty badly on my legs. If you are sensitive to bites, I would also recommend long sleeved clothing. Personally will not be returning due to my sensitivity to bites but definitely worth checking out once for some great nature sights."
