What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Olivewood Cemetery is praised for its significant historical value and the ongoing restoration efforts that are bringing it back to life. Visitors appreciate learning about the lives of early Black settlers and pioneers. However, some note that the cemetery can be neglected and access might be restricted, with a need for better communication regarding contact information.
"Awesome Cemetery. Great history. Glad to see and hear it’s being cleaned up. My wife and I help clean up old neglected cemeteries up here in Kansas City, as well. Luckily I was able to run into a neighbor of the cemetery, as it is locked up (she gave me the code). Not sure if it’s locked all the time or if there’s a back way in, so keep that in mind."

"Lots of old graves, lots of history too I bet.
Look forward to seeing deeper.
Needs a bit more attention to it than it's getting. (I spent some time removing limbs from a top Graves)"

"Incredible historic cemetery where many of Houston's first black settlers & freed slaves rest. Like many (or most) historical sites in Houston, Olivewood has not allows been treated with the respect it deserves. It's a huge disappointment. I know a lot of volunteer efforts have been made to change that which is nice to see. I posted a photo from one of my visits."
