Reviews Summary

Visitors are consistently impressed by the unique geological formations and the historical significance of Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park. Many highlight the affordability and the well-maintained trails, offering a peaceful escape with fascinating insights into ancient coral reefs and the construction of the Overseas Railroad. While generally positive, some note potential challenges with pea gravel on trails and the presence of mosquitos during certain times of the year.

"Great afternoon spent at the park looking at beautiful coral fossils. The ranger made sure we understood how bad the mosquitos were and offered us bug wipes for $1 that worked wonders. There are about 70 numbered information markers that are explained in detail by a guide book they lent out. The paths are well maintained by the pea gravel was newly laid when we went and I could see it being a mobility challenge for some, but there were indicators of the trail difficulty for all trails. Air conditioned bathrooms and water bottle filler were great."

"We visited Windley Key Fossil State Park expecting just a simple park, but were absolutely thrilled with everything it had to offer! The fossilized coral embedded in the ancient rock was spectacular and really gave a unique insight into the area’s history. The plant life was equally breathtaking, and we loved taking in the natural beauty around us.

We went in early April and were pleasantly surprised that we had no issues with bugs, which was a huge plus! The trails were easy to manage, not too long, and perfect for a leisurely walk. We ended up walking most of them and enjoyed every step.

Highly recommend this park for anyone looking to explore natural beauty, fascinating geology, and enjoy a peaceful outdoor experience."

"If you want a low intensity trail some interesting history or are into geology or birding this place is worth a visit! The staff is also awesome and super friendly!"
