Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Port Hudson for its significant historical importance and the unique, challenging hiking trails. The site offers a blend of educational museum exhibits and engaging outdoor exploration, with occasional cannon demonstrations adding to the experience. Some find the trail signage confusing, and the museum could benefit from updates, but overall it's considered a well-maintained and worthwhile destination.
"I took a dozen Girl Scouts hiking at Port Hudson! They were more interested in the hiking than the museum, although the museum was interesting to the adults.
The great thing about hiking at Port Hudson is that the terrain is very unlike most of the surrounding area. It has some pretty significant hills! The old earthwork forts are super cool also.
We didn't see much useful signage however. There are some signs with alphabet labels, but the map I downloaded before the hike didn't include the letters. Thankfully we had a trails app."

"This is a great place to visit. The history of this location is pretty amazing, and the trails that you can walk are fun. There are markers to help guide you if you have the map handed out at the museum. As a history buff, I found the museum needing a bit of an update, but it was well worth the visit."

"Fabulous history and hiking. There are clean restrooms. A museum and video room with seating in the air-conditioned building. Maps for hiking several trails with historic points along the way. Shady trails and picnic areas with tables. Large open field where a battle took place. Kids can run around, play and fly their own kites. Bring your own food and drinks. Pets on leashes are allowed."
