Reviews Summary

Visitors are captivated by the sheer size and majesty of the largest bald cypress tree, finding the short hike to it rewarding. However, the unpaved, pothole-ridden access road and potential for flooding or storm damage can significantly detract from the experience, sometimes making the refuge impassable.

"Have been wanting to get out here and see the cypress tree, it was so nice to explore this area, it’s a short walk on a well worn path the the cypress tree, but you can definitely keep going and walk up to I think 5 miles. Beware the road to here is limestone and has a lot of potholes"

Lauren (Rose)

"Was a great experience and definitely worth the drive and short hike to see such beauty.
The trail does have some branches and trees down for now due to the tornado recently but it's very easily accessible."

Amanda Jarreau

"Went to see the Cat Island Cypress tree. After driving about 4 or so miles into the NWR, I find out the road to it is flooded and impassable. The gate was not closed, no signs warning of any high water etc..
The road was pretty narrow. But I did manage to get turned around on it without going off into the swamp. If you want to see the Cat Island Cypress, I definitely wouldn't try it after any rain."
