Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the East Fork Wallowa River Trail for its breathtaking mountain scenery and diverse hiking opportunities, calling it an 'underrated spot' and a 'top ten' hiking destination. However, some find the trails can be overgrown in parts, and mosquitoes can be a significant nuisance during peak season.

"Spent five days backpacking here with my daughter. Gorgeous. It is fairly popular so finding campsites can be a challenge. The best spot we had was at Moccasin Lake, which made for a nice day hike up to Eagle Cap. I've hiked all over the west. The Wallowas are firmly in my top ten."

"This is a busy trailhead
You need the northwest forest pass or America the beautiful
Hiked to ice lake for backpacking
Very underrated spot the mountains were amazing
Ice lake is an easy backpacking trip
The waterfalls were nice
Mosquitoes were insane at the lake
It's a very short trail but lots of switchbacks after you cross the stream
The trail is slightly overgrown in the first few miles

"Really pretty trail, I hiked ~5 miles up the West Wallowa trail and on the way back took the Chief Joseph Trail to the bridge before doubling back to the Wallowa Lake Trailhead. Even though it is the end of May and I was a little worried about snow, there wasn't any on the trail until around mile 4 and there weren't significant amounts until 5, even then it was still easily walkable. I'd say it's a moderate trail, not strenuous as it isn't a big incline. It also looked as though it was a popular backpacking area, I saw multiple backpackers potentially going to Ice Lake(I saw the sign for this partway up the West Wallowa trail)"
