Visitors rave about Kiholo State Park's stunning black sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, and abundant wildlife, especially the sea turtles. The natural beauty and opportunities for snorkeling and hiking are major draws. However, some find the bumpy road access challenging, and the lack of amenities requires visitors to be well-prepared.

"I do recommend for you to have a 4x4 to drive down to the parking. You will need sunblock, water a hat, and very good walking shoes. Lots of rocks and lava. You will see lots of turtles. It's a very beautiful walk along the coast."

Wandy G.

"Definitely the go to beach spot. Road and parking is good. Turn off Queens highway and about a half mile. Camp to left. Queen bath and snorkeling to the right."

D Simmons

"The road to get to the reserve was very bumpy and quite long. Just brace yourself and go very slow unless you have an SUV or jeep. We drove as far as we could go and then took a short walk to the beach area. Pretty black sand but you may want to wear your sandals instead of going barefoot as the minerals and rocks within the sand is sharp. It was pretty cool to see black sand and the beach was nice! We didn’t see any turtles during the time we were there but we still had a great time! The goats were crossing the path as we were leaving."
