it’s no surprise that Kauai has some truly incredible waterfalls like Makaleha falls.😍😍 ➡️ While there are some falls that can be seen from roadside view points-such as Wailua and Opaeka’a Falls-we recommend challenging yourself with a hike to the bottom where you’ll be rewarded with a refreshing swim and an even better view at makaleha falls. 🏷️Tag someone who loves hiking. 😍😍 🎥 @actionjocks...

Reviews Summary

Makaleha Falls offers a challenging but incredibly rewarding adventure for those prepared for its technical terrain. Hikers rave about the stunning waterfall and the immersive rainforest experience, despite the slippery rocks, creek crossings, and difficult trail navigation. It's a true test of endurance and a highlight for many seeking an off-the-beaten-path Kauai experience.

"This was a hard hike. Get ready to get filthy dirty! Never steep, just very slippery and technical, and tricky to find the trail. Lots of boulder hopping and river walking, which I loathe especially on the slipperiest river rocks! I ended up in the splits about 8 times due to my feet just sliding out from under me, and one of our group actually suffered a broken toe from a slip in the river. (Best not to hike in flip flops) It was absolutely beautiful and enchanting though. Lots of mushrooms and greenery, moss covered everything. We were in a group of 5, it took us 4 hours up and 2 hours down. We loved the pool at the base of the falls, and the pool at the very beginning/end of the hike. So refreshing! Not for beginners or physically unfit, but definitely recommend otherwise, just allow yourself enough time."

"The hike is technical, but not overly difficult... that is if you can find and stay on the trail. There were four in our party and we were making good time for about the first mile and then the trail gets lost in the trees. It looks like you can manage your way up the river, but there are no clear trails, and those that are clear add quite a bit of time and increased difficulty. As for the quality of the hike it was unbelievable. I love the obstacles that we had to manage throughout the hike. And the waterfall at the end was about perfect. All in all, it was one of the best adventure hikes we were able to do on Kauai. I would highly recommend it, but give yourself more time than you think you need in case you lose the trail and wander for a bit. Also, don't wear new light gray shoes. :) My friends shoes came clean, but not a recommended activity for brand new shoes."

"This is a very strenuous hike. Lots of bouldering and river crossing. Great for people who like a very interactive hiking experience. On a rainy day, expect mud on your everything and some minor scrapes and bruises. It's super fun to do with friends/family, and the waterfall at the end makes it so much more worth it. Bring water and snacks, wear a bathing suit if you want to swim, and a towel optionally. I recommend wearing water shoes, but tennis shoes that you don't care about work too."
