What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Camp Beale Springs for its well-maintained trails, offering good options for hiking and mountain biking. The scenic views and opportunities for wildlife sightings are highlights. However, the rocky terrain requires sturdy footwear, and ample water is essential due to the lack of shade.
"I hiked the Beal West to Beal East loop one early (6am) Saturday morning in mid September and it was a good hike. Around 4 miles with about 300-400 feet elevation change. The trail can be rocky so wear appropriate shoes. There are plenty of other trails here so you have plenty of good hiking or mountain biking options and yes, hose back riding as well. Bring plenty of water and enjoy the scenery!"

"Beautiful day on the trails. Beale loop is well marked and maintained. Some up hills so gauge it as easy/moderate. 2.5 miles. Would not do in above 90° temps. As always go prepared with water, good shoes and head/ eye shade as you will not find any on the trail."
Mary SN (Roxanne)
"This is a great trail. But wear proper foot wear. It’s over a lot of lava rock and it is a moderate to strenuous hike. They placed benches in areas for resting and views. If you take a dog please be mindful of the rough terrain on their paws. My small Husky did it but it was a little hard on her paws. Would not subject her to it again. There is better trails for your pets."

Navigating the Trails
When planning your hike, consider the trail conditions and your personal fitness level. While some find the trails simple and not too difficult, others classify them as moderate to strenuous due to the rocky surfaces. Benches are strategically placed in some areas for resting and enjoying the views, which is a thoughtful addition for hikers. The variety of trails means you can tailor your experience, whether you're looking for a short, easy walk or a more vigorous workout. Always check weather conditions before you go, as hiking in extreme heat can be dangerous.
Wildlife sightings are a common and delightful aspect of visiting Camp Beale Springs. Many visitors have reported seeing deer, particularly during the quieter hours of the day. Early mornings are often cited as the best time for these encounters, adding an extra layer of magic to your outdoor adventure. Remember to observe wildlife from a respectful distance and avoid disturbing their natural habitat.
Essential Gear and Preparation
Beyond footwear and water, sun protection is another vital consideration. A wide-brimmed hat or visor can provide much-needed relief from the sun, and sunscreen is advisable. For those with pets, it's important to be mindful of the terrain's impact on paw pads. While some dogs, like boxers and huskies, have completed the hikes, reviewers suggest that the rough surfaces can be hard on their paws, and alternative, smoother trails might be better suited for canine companions.
Finally, consider the time of day you plan to visit. Early morning hikes are consistently recommended to avoid the peak heat of the day and to increase the chances of spotting wildlife. This also tends to be a less crowded time, allowing for a more peaceful experience on the trails.
