What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Blackwolf Run is lauded for its immaculate course conditions and challenging, well-designed holes, particularly on the River Course, which many consider a highlight. The scenic beauty and the overall experience are frequently praised, with many recommending it as a must-play destination. However, some visitors have found the music selection on The Baths course to be disruptive to the golf environment.
"Blackwolf Run River Course is an absolute gem though this isn't breaking news. Even though I played in mid October, the course is still in perfect condition. It offers wide fairways and greens but still precise accuracy. The greens are fast and slick. Now I understand why pros want to be below the hole on putts because there is so much more control over putting. Between the River and Straits, I prefer the River. Overall, it was an amazing experience and would recommend."

"I golfed the Blackwolf Run BATHS course last Sunday with 3 siblings. The Scottish style course is beautiful complete with natural terrain and “pot bunkers”. Great food, drinks and helpful employees. The only thing ruining the experience were the outdoor speakers on the putting green and throughout the course playing alternative rock (Nirvana, Green Day, etc). I love music but not this genre on a golf course. It does not belong here! It was family day/night and not conducive to this environment. Such a shame to spoil what could be a unique golf experience."

"Obviously when people think Kohler they think Straits, but honestly the River course is not to be missed. It’s a masterclass in routing not only from a course design perspective but also how Dye takes you through this gorgeous piece of property. A lot of really great holes here, some of which can go toe to toe with the great holes on Straits. Playing in the evening as the sun set was literal nirvana."

The Iconic River Course
What sets the River Course apart is its masterful routing that seamlessly integrates with the terrain. Dye's design incorporates natural hazards, deep pot bunkers, and undulating fairways that test every aspect of a golfer's game. The greens are known for being fast and slick, requiring a delicate touch. It’s often compared favorably to its sister course, Whistling Straits, with some golfers even preferring its more intimate connection to the natural environment. Playing in the evening, as the sun sets, is described as a truly magical experience.
Key features of the River Course include its challenging par-3s, demanding par-4s, and risk-reward par-5s. The course has also hosted major championships, including the U.S. Women's Open, underscoring its championship pedigree. For golfers seeking a memorable and challenging round in a spectacular setting, the River Course at Blackwolf Run is an absolute must-play.
The Unique 'The Baths' Experience
What makes The Baths particularly unique is the integration of music on each hole. While some visitors find this adds a lively atmosphere, others have noted it can be distracting. Regardless, it contributes to a distinct and memorable experience. The natural beauty of the course, combined with its playful design, makes it a standout feature of the Blackwolf Run property. It’s a place where you can practice your short game while enjoying the scenic surroundings.
Tips for playing The Baths include embracing the casual atmosphere and enjoying the unique musical element. It's a great opportunity to work on your putting and chipping in a beautiful setting. The staff are known for being helpful, and the overall experience is often described as friendly and welcoming.
Meadow Valleys: A Classic Challenge
The course features wide fairways that can be forgiving, but strategically placed bunkers and undulating greens demand thoughtful play. It’s a course that rewards good course management and a solid all-around game. The natural beauty of the landscape is a constant companion, with the changing seasons offering different visual appeals. Many golfers find Meadow Valleys to be a perfect complement to the more demanding River Course, offering variety within the Blackwolf Run complex.
Playing Meadow Valleys offers a chance to experience Pete Dye's design philosophy in a slightly different context. It’s a course that can be enjoyed by a wide range of golfers, providing a fair test without the extreme demands of some of the more famous Dye designs. It’s a great option for those looking for a high-quality round in a picturesque setting.
