Stopped by Adirondack Folk School on the way back home yesterday from Lake George. They offer some craft classes and luckily we could walk into the wood chip carving class. Just wow!

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Adirondack Folk School for its authentic, hands-on craft experiences and the quality of its artisan instructors. The blacksmithing workshops are a particular highlight, offering a unique and memorable opportunity to learn a traditional skill. While the focus is on learning and creating, the on-site gift shop also provides a chance to purchase beautiful, locally made items.

"I was so impressed with this historic school building. I learned that it currently houses classrooms for Fiber Arts, Basketry, Woodworking, Woodcarving, Quilting, Felting, to name a few. The Lake George Annex location – the Alfred Z. Solomon Weaving and Woodworking Studio – has allowed the Folk School even more space for some of their larger class offerings, such as the Wee Lassie Canoe, and various Fiber Arts classes. During our visit we learned that In 2023, over 1,000 students who had 60 artisan instructors and over 250 classes to choose from were able to take advantage and learn from the best. It was a welcoming place, which invites people to come see what Folk Schools are all about, where they started, and how they made their way to America."

"A group of five of us did an intro blacksmithing workshop with Steve. We had a really wonderful time. Everyone at the school was attentive and helpful; the space is wonderful, and Steve was a blast to work with. We all plan to come back for some more classes soon!"

Max Pekarsky

"People are nice and what one learns is also a great. I took a basket making class; the instructor was great and I took home a nice basket, which my wife receives many compliments on. Also, on a later date, made Roasting Forks with my daughter, which was really great. Hat's off to the old timey blacksmiths; we had a forge...it took all day, but well worth the work!"
