The unique basalt columns and the immersive mist at the base are frequently highlighted as major draws. While generally well-received, some note the parking lot's small size and the potential for steepness on the upper trails.

"Stunningly beautiful waterfall with a very short and easy hike. About a 6 minute walk from the parking lot and wow is it nice. A very tall waterfall that you can literally walk into if you wanted (obviously do not). I got as close as possible to it and it’s very fun and the water begins splashing you which is cool. Don’t forget to stop at this waterfall you will not regret it!"

Guillermo Rangel

"Easy access. Gorgeous waterfall. You have to access it from the historic route 30. Easiet way is to exit from Int 84 on bridal veil exit and go back east at the parking lot for the trial head. You can see the falls from about 30 stairs up. The hike to the base is about .2 mile. It is a little incline coming back out. You can take the trail farther to the top of the falls. Absolutely worth the stop. There are restrooms at the parking lot. Parking lot isn't very big. Go on weekday and early if possible. We got there about 10am on a thursday."

Tim N

"This place is gorgeous. The hike is a bit steep if you have any knee or mobility issues. Totally worth the drive. I hear there are 2 waterfalls there. I only saw the lower one. The kids could run around and climb on the rocks."

Exploring the Trails of Latourell Falls

This 0.2-mile walk is very accessible and leads you right to the base of the impressive 249-foot cascade. You can get quite close here, feeling the refreshing mist and hearing the roar of the water. It's a perfect option for those with limited mobility or time. InstagramReddit

For those seeking a bit more adventure, the Latourell Falls Loop Trail extends beyond the lower falls. This loop trail, approximately 2.4 miles, takes you to the Upper Latourell Falls and offers more challenging terrain with steeper sections. It provides a different perspective of the falls and allows you to immerse yourself further in the lush forest of Guy W. Talbot State Park. Be prepared for some elevation gain if you choose this option. Reddit

Many visitors find the shorter hike to the lower falls incredibly rewarding, offering a spectacular view without a strenuous effort. However, the loop trail is highly recommended for hikers who want to experience more of the park's natural beauty and discover the upper cascades. Reddit

The Unique Geology of Latourell Falls

One of the most striking features of Latourell Falls is its dramatic geological setting. The waterfall plunges over a cliff composed of Columbia River Basalt, a type of volcanic rock that formed millions of years ago. What makes this basalt particularly fascinating are the columnar jointing patterns visible on the cliff face. These hexagonal columns are formed as lava flows cool and contract, creating these distinctive geometric shapes that frame the waterfall beautifully. TikTok

These basalt columns are a testament to the powerful volcanic activity that shaped the Pacific Northwest. They create a visually stunning backdrop for the single, elegant stream of Latourell Falls. Photographers often highlight these formations as a key element in capturing the essence of the location. TikTok

Visiting Latourell Falls isn't just about seeing a waterfall; it's an opportunity to witness a remarkable display of natural artistry, where water has carved its path through ancient volcanic rock, leaving behind a landscape of breathtaking beauty and geological significance. Reddit

Navigating the Columbia River Gorge Waterfalls

Latourell Falls is just one of many spectacular waterfalls along the Historic Columbia River Highway. It's often visited as part of a larger waterfall tour, with popular neighbors like Multnomah Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Wahclella Falls. Instagram+1

This hop-on, hop-off service allows you to visit multiple stops along the waterfall corridor without the hassle of parking at each location, which can be a significant challenge, especially during peak times.
