Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the West Quoddy Head Light Keepers House Museum for its stunning, iconic lighthouse and breathtaking coastal scenery. The well-maintained trails and the opportunity to stand at the easternmost point of the contiguous U.S. are major highlights. While the museum offers interesting historical insights, some note that facilities can be limited, especially off-season.

"One of my favorite places….. I was most recently there on 11/01/2025 and it had just been freshly painted. So I was fortunate to see it in “mint” condition. These beautiful lighthouses take such a beating because of their locations. All the more reason for people to donate towards their upkeep for generations to enjoy. If you get a chance to go inside, there is a very interesting nautical museum. I love it here. It’s also very cool to be the easternmost person in the USA - I went right at dusk and was the only one there (aside from the porcupine that was inspecting my car). Spectacular place🩷. There are some hiking trails and if you can endure some slightly rugged terrain, you can get down to the beach just south of the lighthouse. Bring good hiking shoes - sneakers are not ideal when exploring the rocky coastline of Maine. There is a port-a-potty just before the path leading to the lighthouse from the parking area, on the right. Just word to the wise if you’re going in the off-season: bring your own toilet paper - you wouldn’t want to be caught off-guard! 😊 Lovely place to visit and such a beautiful lighthouse."

"Such a great stop for the whole family. It’s really affordable and super easy to get to, which made it stress-free. It was busy when we went, but it never felt crowded or overwhelming. The views are gorgeous, and there are miles of scenic trails that are well-marked, easy to walk, and perfect for just wandering around and taking it all in. Just a short walk or drive away there’s also a little sandy beach that was a big hit with the kids. Nice and clean, and a great place to relax for a while. Between the lighthouse, the trails, and the beach, there’s plenty to see and do without feeling rushed. Definitely recommend if you’re in the area!"

"780-mile drive? Worth. Every. Mile. This red-and-white striped beauty sits at the easternmost tip of the continental U.S.—cue dramatic Atlantic waves, salty breezes, and jaw-dropping views.

Stroll the cliffs, snap the iconic “Welcome to the East” sign, and watch the light sweep across the ocean—it’s a total soul reset. Lubec’s cozy streets and fresh seafood make it the perfect road-trip cherry on top.

Pro tip: Dress in layers—this lighthouse has a personality, and it’s windy."

This geographical distinction makes it a popular destination for those seeking to experience the first rays of sunrise in the continental U.S. The iconic red-and-white striped lighthouse has stood guard over these rugged shores since its current structure was completed in 1858, guiding mariners through the often treacherous waters of the Atlantic. The lighthouse and its surrounding grounds are part of West Quoddy Head State Park, preserving the natural beauty and historical significance of the area. Reddit

The adjacent Keeper's House Museum offers a tangible connection to the lives of the lighthouse keepers and their families. Beyond the lighthouse itself, the park boasts a network of scenic hiking trails that wind along the cliffs and through coastal forests.
