What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally praise Point of Honor for its beautiful Federal-style architecture, well-preserved interiors, and scenic James River views. The guided tours are often highlighted for their informative content, and the gift shop is a pleasant surprise. However, some guests have noted that tour guide interactions, particularly with children, could be more welcoming, and potential construction can occasionally impact access.
"We came a few years ago, and I should have left a review at that time. The tour was interesting, and the gift shop was terrific. So why did I give it 3 stars? Because our tour guide (a younger woman, sorry, I don't remember her name) was on my nephew (who was around 8 years old at the time) the ENTIRE time we were on the tour with her. She nagged him non-stop to stop touching things (he was behaving & wasn't disturbing any of the items, but he was moving around--again, not in a destructive or irresponsible way).
Adults complain about the next generation not being interested in history, but why would they be when they're being nagged while trying to learn about history? The information was good, but the tour guide didn't seem to enjoy having kids on the tour. They were well-behaved & curious about what she was talking about, in spite of her staying on his case throughout the whole event. This could be a wonderful tour for kids as well as adults--with some better training for the tour guides."

"An old plantation home in one of a few historic districts of Lynchburg, VA.. Includes a gift shop and history section at the parking area. It can be walked but is probably best to at least drive then park as there is construction on the bridge to get there. Other than that it's a beautiful neighborhood to explore."

"Grand historic home and grounds. My wife and I saw an Endstation Theater production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. The actors did a fantastic job performing this 17th century RomCom. Point of Honor served as a backdrop to the play. I understand there's a 75min. guided tour of the home for Adults 8.00, children 4.00. Looking forward to learning more about this historic home."
