Climbing 2500 feet in 3 miles always has me questioning my life decisions 😅 This hike in particular was brutal. Looking back on it doesn't make it seem so bad, but in the moment I was not happy 😂 📍Killington Peak via the Bucklin Trail, October 2022 #nationalpark #nationalparks #nationalparkservice #nationalparkgeek #leavenotrace #hiking #travel #hike #hikersofinstagram #sheisthewild #womenwhohi...

What a great challenging hike up Bucklin Trail to Killington Peak! The out-and-back journey to Killington Peak spanned 7.2 miles in total with a strenuous elevation gain of nearly 2,500 feet. What a rewarding hike with views of three mountain ranges, including the Adirondacks, the White Mountains, and, of course, the Green Mountains.

#mothersdaygift #qualitytime #bucklintrail 💪Hiked Killington with my oldest kids today. They blessed me with their time doing something I love. It's all I really want as a gift! But I made them buy the food too 😆. Its always better when we're together. These times are more fleeting than ever as they are grown and making their own way in life. Good kids. Very blessed.

Reviews Summary

Hikers rave about the incredible summit views on the Bucklin Trail, calling it a 'phenomenal' and 'insane' reward after a challenging climb. The trail is well-maintained, with some enjoying the option to camp near the top. However, many warn that the final scramble is much steeper and more difficult than expected, making it unsuitable for beginners.

"Fantastic hike. The first couple of miles are easy, then it becomes moderate. The final 0.2 miles from the campsite to the summit are much steeper and a rocky scramble - careful when descending, likely very slippery when wet. Incredible views from the top.
Can be done in under 3 hours at a constant, strong pace with minimal stops. Better to allow 4+hours and enjoy a picnic at the top of the weather is fine. Would be lovely to camp at the site near the top and enjoy sunset/sunrise on the peak. There are 3 elevated tent sites there. Some cute bridges. Very well maintained trail systems."

"Wow. This was hard. My husband and I went to the Grand Canyon this year and so we thought “oh we could do this hike, easy” …. NOPE. This was hard. Literally had to climb the edge of the mountain to get to the top. But it was worth it. It was beautiful just be prepared to be sore for days afterwards!"

"This trail up to Killington Peak was phenomenal! Locals said the trail was flat for approximately 2 miles but it was actually a pretty good incline. The last hour of hiking is extremely steep but the trail is still super nice. The last .2 miles is literally straight up rocks to the top. You’ll have to use your hands to get up some of the rocks. The top is an insane view! There is a restaurant that has amazing food looking out over everything! There is also a gondola that will take you down to the bottom of Killington Slopes. Definitely take some water with you because you will be sweating on this hike."
