What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Hop streetcar is praised for its free fare, modern design, and accessibility features, making it a convenient and clean way to navigate downtown Milwaukee. However, some users have raised concerns about operator conduct and the limited scope of its current route. Despite these issues, it's seen as a positive step towards sustainable urban transit.
"Loved the accessibility space for wheelchairs walkers and strollers . Makes it so much easier for people with a disability to navigate riding . Very impressed and clean too . Oh I wish NYC’s MTA could learn from you . Such a Wonderful experience riding the hop !"
Kristen Birkelbach (The Disability Ally NYC)
"The overt racism demonstrated by some of The Hop Operators is appalling. On one occasion, I witnessed the operator rushing to close the doors and depart from The Burns Commons stop when they saw an individual struggling with boxes in hand while signaling to the operator and trying their hardest to run...Recognizing that the individual was white, the driver quickly pulled away. The man was actually pressing the button that opens the door, the streetcar was motionless due to the red light. The driver refused the man entry. I routinely ride The Hop and have seen the exact opposite treatment when the patron appears to be the same race as the operator. I attempted to bring a similar instance to the attention of The Hop management, but I was met with the sort of cronyism that bears false witness in the interest of protecting colleagues and these practices (scary). At my company, individuals like this are recognised as dangerous and swiftly eliminated...let's get better Hop."

"Since its opening in 2018, The Hop streetcar has demonstrated an ability to serve as transit, support development, and build an emissions-free, pedestrian-oriented, accessible transportation infrastructure for the city--all on a small starter route. As a resident, I've used it regularly. The Hop has motivated and supported growth, jobs, and revenue to help all parts of the city. The Liberty Modern streetcars are modern, American-made, and use award-winning engineering and a battery-overhead wire hybrid power system. The Hop itself won the Engineering News-Record's Best Airport/Transit project in the nation in 2020. People who mistake the streetcar as something from the "1800s" don't understand that these are 21st-century vehicles with modern features, infrastructure, and operating techniques."
