Was it worth it?! 🍁⇊ We think so. The “Grand Canyon of the East” aka Linville Gorge Wilderness definitely did not disappoint. We visited for fall last year and based ourselves in the @visithickorymetro area in Western, North Carolina, and were blown away by the beauty we experienced. Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Linville Gorge for its breathtaking, rugged beauty, often comparing it to the Grand Canyon. The challenging hikes and stunning overlooks are major draws, offering a true wilderness experience. Some reviewers note that trails can be demanding and that weather can be a significant factor, especially in colder months.

"March 2023. Below freezing temperatures and snow. Half my family dipped and went back to the car bc of the cold wind, but I loved it. If you go in the cold, bring a face mask and something to cover ears (the wind can be hard to bear without)."

Caroline McKinney

"March 8, 2025 lots of evidence of Hurricane Helene but most trails have been cleared and reopened. We are very thankful to all of those who have put in the hard work to make this happen and continue to do maintenance. Wiseman's overlook, Babel Tower and Bynum Bluff were all open and are have beautiful views of the Linville River and Gorge. Unfortunately the Linville Falls are still closed with huge trees blocking the trail head."

Daryl Wiggins

"Such a beautiful park. The gorge itself is very lovely, lots of hikes to choose from. Plenty of spots along the river to go swimming safely and lots of big beautiful rocks to climb on. Just watch out for snakes on the forest trails!"
