What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Floyd's City Barber Shop for its authentic Mayberry charm and historical significance. Many appreciate the opportunity to see vintage memorabilia and experience a slower pace of life. While the shop has evolved, its legacy as the inspiration for Floyd the Barber is cherished.
"My husband and I were at Mount Airy over the weekend and this little town is the cutest we adored it so much. We stepped in Floyds barber shop. The owner was so nice and we loved all the pictures they had up. And the old equipment as well :)"
Jennifer Stephens
"I want to thank Floyd’s City Barbershop for their many decades of service to Mount Airy and for being such a special part of Mayberry history. A big thank you also to Bill Hiatt for carrying on his father Russell Hiatt’s legacy and keeping the doors open all those years so fans from around the world could experience the magic of Floyd’s.
While the original Floyd’s is now closed and a re-creation of the show Floyd’s is reopening in its place, the original barber chairs that Andy Griffith sat in, along with other memorabilia, are now located at my shop—Justin’s Barbershop in Smiths Station, Alabama. I count it a blessing to safeguard these historic pieces and share them with the community so that the Mayberry legacy Russell created in his shop continues to live on.
Floyd’s ( Russell Hiatt’s and Bill Hiatt’s legacy) will always be remembered as a landmark of smiles, memories, and tradition, and I am grateful for the many years the relics of the original Floyd’s and atmosphere that was created brought joy to those around the world."
