Mount Lincoln

The trailhead is accessed via a rough, unpaved road. A high-clearance vehicle, such as an SUV or truck, is strongly recommended to navigate the rocky terrain. Some visitors have noted it's about a 41-minute drive from Breckenridge, but this can be significantly impacted by winter weather.

The road is typically only accessible during the summer months when snow has melted. Winter access is generally not possible for standard vehicles.

From Denver, you'll typically take US-285 South towards Fairplay, then head north on CO-9 towards Alma. The turnoff for the trailhead will be from County Road 12.

Currently, there are no widely advertised shuttle services directly to the Mount Lincoln trailhead. It's best to plan for private transportation. 🚗

Parking is available at the trailhead, but it can fill up quickly on busy summer weekends. Arriving early is advised. 🅿️

Generally, no specific permits or tickets are required for hiking Mount Lincoln itself. However, access to some adjacent peaks like Bross may have restrictions due to private land ownership and safety concerns. Always check local regulations before your hike. 🎟️

Many hikers recommend the Decalibron loop, which includes Mounts Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, and Bross. For this loop, hiking clockwise (up Democrat, down Bross) is often suggested for a better experience.

A hike to Mount Lincoln and back can take anywhere from 4 to 7 hours, depending on your fitness level and whether you are doing the full Decalibron loop. Some have completed four 14ers in a day starting in the afternoon.
