"If you're in Calaveras County CA you've got to try and make the Mercer Caverns. We arrived on a Sunday, Aug 31st around 12:30pm and were put on the 3pm guided tour (no more than 15 people each). To burn 2 hours we went into Murphy's and had lunch at the Watering hole, which we highly recommend. Coming back, we went into the caverns. Wow. Stalagtites, stalagmites and so much more! Guide was exceptionally informative about history, pointing out all the cave formations, and clever funny too! Gave him a nice tip at the end. The cave is over 450 steps down with multiple stops along the way to admire features. Wife and I were really happy to have done this. It was the highlight of our day!"

"they say it's cold down there, but it was rather refreshing due to it being 98 outside. our guide Serena was amazing. very patient with our kids."
